The Distillery Story
Smooth Ambler Spirits, located in Maxwelton, West Virginia, is a craft distillery known for its dedication to Appalachian craftsmanship and high-quality whiskey production. Founded in 2009, the distillery has grown from filling just 60 barrels in its first year to producing 280 barrels per month today. Smooth Ambler sources many of its grains locally, within 30 miles of the distillery, while supplementing with select suppliers across the U.S. when needed. The distillery’s flagship products include Contradiction Bourbon and Old Scout American Whiskey. Contradiction Bourbon is a unique blend of four whiskeys: Indiana corn bourbon, Indiana rye bourbon, Tennessee rye bourbon, and Smooth Ambler’s own wheat bourbon. Bottled at 92 proof and non-chill-filtered, it offers a distinctive flavor profile that sets it apart. Old Scout American Whiskey is a five-year-old, high-rye whiskey bottled at 99 proof. While it cannot be labeled as bourbon due to the use of rejuvenated barrels, it remains a standout in the American whiskey category.
